Background from Shabby Blogs

Work status

I am on a hiatus right now as my husband is working towards juris doctorate degree at night in addition to both of us working. I decided to take a break for a little while to see how my time would be effected. Hopefully I will be able to begin taking orders again soon. Thanks for understanding.

Long time no post...finally my first attempt at a diaper cake & the baby shower pics

Summer is just flying by... I've meant to post the baby shower pictures for my cousin's baby boy including my first attempt at a diaper cake.  I did have help - Thanks Lori! The inspiration for the shower was custom bedding in mustard green, turquoise and brown - done in polka dots and stripes - so cute! And while deciding what I was going to make I came across a really cute blog that had an adorable monogrammed diaper cake. Since obviously I love monograms and appliques I thought how perfect is that! So I decided to make one. Here's the link for Kiki's shower:
http://monogramchick.blogspot.com/2010/05/kikis-shower.html .
So I definitely want to give credit for the inspiration of that adorable diaper cake.

I found instructions online at http://www.lollypopdiapercakes.com/pc/DCI/ZZART/Diaper+Cake+Instructions
and it's not the rolled diaper cake that apparently is way time consuming and so much harder than this one... I did find that you need two people to make it but you probably could do it by yourself but grab a friend and have fun! Although I decided to paint a wooden E to put on top and I did end up rolling a few diapers to put the E on top, but that's the only layer that I rolled.

So anyway I made a monogrammed bib and burp cloth that coordinated with the three colors of adorable ribbon that I found to wrap around the diaper cake.

I also made other bibs and burp cloths along with a onesie and a newborn gown for baby Evan. I'm including pictures of the diaper cake, the ensemble at my house prior to the shower (includes a few store bought items and a precious pair of hand-made crocheted baby booties - Thanks Karen!), and miscellaneous pictures from the shower including an adorable dots and stripes cake, a really cool monkey polka dotted wreath for the hospital door,  awesome chocolate molded candy and a cool fruit cone. :) So hopefully you will find my links helpful especially the online instructions so that you can make your own diaper cake. So cool! We are anxiously awaiting the birth of baby Evan! Our family can't wait to meet you. :)
